Sanibel was my parents Happy Place that they traveled to many times two times a year for 30 years. I never made the trip until now. The 2.5 days on Sanibel were emotional, reflective, relaxing, overwhelming. So many thoughts of my dear parents. John was so supportive of me as I wanted to see and experience all the places that mom and dad talked about and to bring to life the photos that I have seen. Mom was a great photographer and took many memorable photos of their trips. Their Sanibel Seashell Collection was like a museums collection.
Made it to the Sanibel Welcome Center before it opened at 9:00 am. I was standing on donation bricks. The one just in front of my foot says "Willard Scott". The Chamber of Commerce volunteer helped me so much to figure out where we needed to go. I told him that I needed to buy t-shirts and he directed me to Bailey's grocery and general store. He told me where Beachview Cottages was located. Along with the Ding Darling Wildlife Preserve, the Mucky Duck, beaches, and the only RV Campground.
Mom took many stunning photos of sea grass.
Shelling isn't what it was 16 years ago.
